did we meet before?

  • by

This week, one afternoon, I received a call from a lady.

“Arati, what have you taught him? While you were on vacation last week, every day he sang the Ganapati Arati almost 10 times. Previously, he used to call your name 5-10 times daily, and now he chants the Ganpati Arati.”

There’s this 7-year-old new kid in the Kids Yoga class who is quite restless. He’s been with us for three months now, and I’ve noticed some improvements in him.

Let me share with you what happened before my vacation.

One day, he called my name “Arati Arati Arati Arati Aratiiiiiiiiiiiii” several times until he got my attention.

I was occupied with other students.

“Arati teacherrrrrrrrrrrrrrr tea churrrrrr”

Once I finished with others, I finally turned to him.

He seemed upset with me and I found him sitting in the corner with folded hands.

I sat in front of him.

“I’m all yours now, so tell me,” I said.

“No, teacher, you’re not just mine. My mom said there are different aratis. There’s Ganapati’s Arati, Kali Ma’s Arati, Durga Devi’s Arati, Datta’s Arati… So you’re everyone’s Arati. You’re not just my only Arati teacher.”

It was almost lunchtime, and I’d already spent four hours conducting yoga and meditation sessions since morning. I was hungry.

“Alright, whatever energy is remaining in my body, I need to spend it with this kid to make him feel secure.”

“Why do you come here?” I asked him.

“To be more powerful. I want to be a strong boy,” he said.

“Nice. Next time, instead of calling my name ‘Arati,’ whenever you miss me, start chanting Ganpati Arati.”

And then I taught him Ganpati’s Arati. We chanted it together for three days before I left for vacation.

Now, in class or outside class, whenever he misses me, he chants Ganpati Arati. Because of him, everybody at his home chants with him in the evening.

When I was in high school, I didn’t like my name, Arati. I thought it was old-fashioned, so I changed the spelling to Arati instead of Aarti/Arti. I combined the letter “A” with “rati,” my nickname, to make it sound cooler.

This name stuck with me, and now that I’m on a spiritual journey, I like it.

We may not remember anything about our previous life, however  in current life we feel strongly attracted to certain souls and not to others.

We may feel naturally drawn to those who we knew before. As per Guru, Shri Paramhansa Yogananda Ji “

A close friendship is not possible with anyone we have not met in former lives. This is a fact”.

When you think of someone as a friened, it is becuse you have known that soul before and your previous relationship makes you feel close to that person.

In life, you also get attracted to some people with whom you have misunderstandings, it means in previous life your relationship was half as friend and half as enemy.

If you are spiritually developed, you will consciously recognize souls you have known before.

In each new incarnation, natures makes us forget the personalities and relationships of souls we knew in previous lives. Its good!!

Otherwise imagine how confusing it would be if you remembered all the roles you and your loved ones played in past lives. You wouldn’t know which mother, father, spouse, or child to love.
Its just not about people but also places. A area feels so familiar to you that you feel certain you have been there before, Have you ever felt like this?

how can we recognise those we knew before?

In a crowd of strangers, sometimes there is one whom you feel at first meeting you have known long ago. Other we never feel close to , no matter how much we spend time with them.

If you don’t let your biases affect you and are not misled by only sexual attraction, and you feel a strong connection to certain people, it’s probably because you knew them before.

True friends want nothing from you expect joy of your presence.

If we mix with people with real sincerity, thoughtfulness and love then we can attract our real friends.

Otherwise, we will never find our real friends.

And when we love god, we can truly love others.

As todays topic is Friendship, this month I will get a nice chance to spend some time with my friends.

Some are coming from Australia, some are already here. 3 days somewhere outside Mumbai in nature. Really looking forward to this.

This whole week, I’ve been working and meditating. It’s the last month of 2023. In my next post, I’ll reflect on the year.

Today is Saturday. Since morning I made Maharashtrian style “Kande Pohe” and “Banan + Spinach smoothe”. Completeted Yoga practice.

Now now its 12.33 pm in India. Its a weekend, Saturday.

Now, widen your lips and smile.

See? You look good when you smile.

I could have cracked a joke instead, but you know, I care for you 🙃.
